About our Land

A lot of people ask us:

Where is Puerto Rico located?

And the Nuyoricans?

Who are they and where are they from?

From Wikepedia we see that:

Nuyorican (or Newyorican) is a portmanteau word based on the terms New York and Puerto Rican. The term refers to members or culture of the Puerto Rican diaspora located in or around New York City, as well as their descendants (especially those raised or still living in the New York City area).

This term can be used for Puerto Ricans living in other parts of the Northeastern United States outside of New York State, such as Philadelphia, Chicago, or Orlando, Florida. The term is also used by Islander Puerto Ricans (Puerto Ricans of Puerto Rico) to differentiate those of Puerto Rican ancestry from those born in Puerto Rico.

In New York, a large percentage of Nuyoricans live in the South Bronx.

Internationally acclaimed singer Jennifer Lopez (“I’m just Jenny from the block…”) is one of the most recognized Nuyoricans, but there are many other prominent Nuyoricans from all walks of life.
